Why I Value the PRSA Awards

Posted on Jul. 22, 2024  /  Blacksmith Awards  /  0

It’s almost that time again - to celebrate our annual Blacksmith Awards! These awards hold a special place in my heart for many reasons and I’m always honored to share the evening with my team and colleagues.

This year’s banquet is particularly exciting for me as I have the privilege of speaking in front of the membership as the current chapter president.

As I reflect on the points I made below, originally published in 2020, I find they still ring true today, so I’m sharing with a few updates.

More than ever, I’ve found that these awards are worth the investment. By entering, you are truly investing in your professional reputation.

And while I could probably go on for days about my love of PRSA and the leaders who make this event possible, for the sake of space, I’ll share with you the top three reasons why I love our Blacksmith awards (remastered):

1) We take time to celebrate the talent and creativity within our chapter

Let’s face it, we are all incredibly busy. It’s the nature of our profession. As a result, we don’t often have time to take a step back and truly celebrate our own work, much less that of our peers.  And Cincinnati has an extraordinary wealth of incredible talent. Truly innovative practitioners who rival any major market in the country.

The Blacksmith Awards provide a platform for us to see what others have been up to and recognize those efforts.  Without fail, I leave the event each year feeling inspired.

2) Recognition lends credibility to my team’s level of expertise and mastery of public relations

Just as third-party validation is critical to lending authenticity to a message, awards support our capabilities and value propositions. After all, anyone can say they’re an expert. Having a peer-reviewed campaign earn a distinction proves that we are experts.

As a small agency, it is especially important to demonstrate our efficacy as we continue to grow and compete in markets outside of Cincinnati.

3) Winning Awards serves as a new business generator

Over the years, we have received a number of new business inquiries from prospective clients who noticed Pomme’s recognition on our website or social media and reached out.

Let’s face it, clients like winning awards, too, because it makes them look good! Celebrating alongside our clients at past Blacksmith ceremonies has deepened our relationships and trust.

Now, I’d love to know – what’s your favorite Blacksmith Awards memory?
