PR professionals and communicators from Greater Cincinnati recently gathered at Paycor headquarters for an interactive discussion on how to best navigate the current state of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in public relations and communications.

Amy E. Hull, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Paycor, led the discussion and offered her expertise on how to manage current constraints on DEI given the ongoing changes in the country. Attendees also broke into smaller group discussions and shared barriers and workarounds on amplifying DEI as communicators.

Here are a few takeaways:

  • As of March 18, 2025, a total of 75 lawsuits have been filed against the administration, several of which target DEI specifically.
  • DEI rollbacks have affected every workplace sector, but nonprofits are most at risk because of federal funding.
  • To navigate restrictions, some companies have adjusted their language. For example, JP Morgan Chase has rebranded DEI to “Diversity, Opportunity and Inclusion,” or DOI, to emphasize equal access.
  • PR pros and communicators are encouraged to emphasize the importance of relationships; focus on emotional intelligence to help maintain and advance DEI efforts; and focus on diversity of thought.

Thank you to Amy for helping us lead this important and timely discussion. Cincinnati PRSA remains committed to prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion in everything we do, and we hope, as a PR pro, you will do the same.
